Parent and Volunteer Policy

Cold Ash Pre-school is a committee run organisation and a registered charity. It is our belief that when parents and pre-school work together in partnership the children benefit educationally and socially. Pre-school is often the first insight of education/care for both parents and children and to help parents to be come involved in pre-school can give an insight as to how the pre-school benefits the children. We achieve this by:

Encouraging parents to join the committee to enable them to be part of the decision making process. Committee meetings are held in a venue, which is accessible and appropriate for all parents that want to join and at a time best suitable to the majority.

Requiring parents to help out at the pre-school one session each half term. This enables them to see how their child interacts with others, children and adults. This also helps us to improve our knowledge of the needs of their child and to support their family. A committee member is responsible for a rota to assign parents their session for helping. This committee member will work with parents to make sure they are asked to help on the most convenient sessions to them. Pre-school allows helping parents to be accompanied by a younger sibling, however, the child will remain the responsibility of the parent whilst on site.

Producing a newsletter at the beginning of each half term informing parents of diary dates, special events, weekly activities etc, as well as asking them for any resources and help if needed.

Using a white board to share information during the terms (I.e. notifying parents of illnesses at the pre-school, term dates etc)

Asking parents to share their skills, knowledge and interests with the pre-school.

Encouraging a two-way flow of information, knowledge and expertise and offering an open door policy so parents can speak to their child's Key Worker at a time that best suits them.

All volunteers/parent helpers have access to the policies, clearly stating procedures on Behaviour, Health and Safety, Equipment and Resources and Confidentiality and they will be asked to return a signed Declaration of Understanding upon their child's entrance to the Pre-school.
