Special Needs & Equal Opportunities

Equal Opportunities

As a pre-school we are committed to equal opportunities for children and families of all religions, race, means or ability. We work in accordance with all relevant legislation and we believe that the Pre-school's activities should be open to all children and families and to all adults committed to their education and care. We aim to ensure that all who wish to work in, or volunteer to help with, our pre-school have an equal chance to do so. We believe children have a right to learn in an environment free from prejudices and without discrimination.

Special Needs

Our pre-school aims to work to the objectives of the DfES Code of Practice on special educational needs. In addition, we work to the guidelines supplied to private and voluntary providers of pre-school education. We aim to offer appropriate learning opportunities, for all children.

We encourage all children in the pre-school, irrespective of their special needs, wherever possible to participate in all the activities and we ensure the pre-school's Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and the child's Key Worker monitor the needs and progress of children who have special educational needs.

We always work closely with the parents of all the children in the Pre-school to ensure that the children's progress and achievements are shared and discussed with parents on a regular basis.

If is felt that a child's needs cannot be met in the pre-school without additional personnel and/or equipment that funding will be sought to ensure that provision is appropriate to the child's needs working in liaison with relevant professions and agencies outside the Pre-school to meet child's specific needs.
